The Mead

During this five week course we develop and experiment with the key skills associated with hand-building in pottery. Using natural and man-made forms as a starting point, we explore 3D form and learn to use appropriate building and joining techniques to realise an idea. Suitable for beginners or those returning to clay, each of the early weeks focus on developing a set of skills, with structured activities offering opportunities to add a creative twist. In the latter weeks, we will develop a larger design, inspired by our earlier work, decorating our creations using some experimental finishes during the final week. Note this course is split- on the 7th and 14th September we will be practising our skills, then following a two week break we will start making our final piece. [Please note that this course is designed to focus on skill-building, relaxation and creativity and for ease, we will be using air-dry clay. Whilst this material behaves and feels the same as clay that is later fired, this does mean that our creations will be purely decorative i.e. cannot hold liquid or be stored outdoors.] The course costs £50 and includes all materials.
