Get by with a little help

50 years ago the Beatles released their famous track, ‘With a little help from my friends’ which is still true today! Most of us rely on our friends, family and neighbours for a bit of advice when times are hard… particularly when simply finding out what is going on or what to do relies on trying to navigate an online world of forms and information or a call to an automated phone line.

Thankfully in Southmead you can talk to a real life person at the one-stop shop on Arnside. SCART is run by some lovely volunteers who are willing to lend a hand with almost anything. They are open most weekdays. Next time you’re popping round the shops admire the shutters, take notice of the posters or stop for a chat.

If you fancy a coffee and cake whilst you get some advice, The Greenway Centre is also hoping to host an advice morning in their café one day a week. Some helpful people will be able to signpost, help with form filling in or just be there for a chat come August time. However they need to find some willing community members who like tea and helping others… it can’t be that hard, right? Have a look at their advert for volunteers here.

All volunteers get training from North Bristol Advice Centre who you can also call on 0117 951 5751 if you need free and independent advice.

Look after yourselves Southmead (and look after each other).
